Game Synopsis & Start of Development
We have started development on "Crimson Army (working title)".
The games is set in the medieval fantasy world of Asheron where you play as Bekrim, an archer in the Pragon Royal Army, fighting back against the brutal invasion of the Kroulan Empire's army of monsters. They have been a blight upon Asheron, and have been relentlessly pursuing conquest. After your regiment was overrun by the general himself, most people were killed or captured. You wake up in a dark prison cell far behind enemy lines. Deciding that you don't want to die a miserable death from torture, you plan your escape and to make your way back to ally territory no matter what.
The mechanics we have developed as of now are:
We have a basic rectangular sprite to represent the player character while the actual sprite is being worked on.
We have created a graybox environment purely for testing the movement and mechanics of the game.
The movement and jumping is fully implemented, but their values are still subject to change. The controls are currently built with console in mind, as we feel that is a better platform for our game.
For the bow shooting, we have the charging mechanic for drawing back the bow complete. The player will move at half speed and be unable to jump while drawing their bow. The bow can only be fired after the full half-second draw time right now, in which case the arrow will fly straight forward and do normal damage, but we will implement a partial shot that does less damage and is affected by gravity to pull the arrow down. Arrows that hit the terrain have a 50/50 chance to be destroyed or stick in the wall. Arrows stuck in the walls will be made recoverable further in development.
The camera follows the player instead of encompassing the entire room, as this lets us have larger rooms, and rooms of varying sizes.
